Who holds the key to Kaaba?

The custodianship of the key to the Kaaba is a highly respected position in Islamic history, and after the conquest of Makkah, it was entrusted to Hazrat Usman bin Talha (RA). He belonged to the Banu Shaybah tribe, the traditional caretakers of the Kaaba. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered Makkah peacefully, Hazrat Usman bin Talha (RA) personally handed over the key to the Holy Kaaba to the Prophet (PBUH), acknowledging the authority of Islam while retaining the honor of his family’s custodianship.

The Prophet (PBUH) returned the key to Hazrat Usman bin Talha (RA) and declared that the key and custodianship of the Kaaba would remain with him and his descendants forever. This established a unique tradition where the key is passed down within the family of Banu Shaybah, ensuring continuity and respect for the Kaaba’s security and sanctity.
