Hazrat Usman (R.A.) was the first Hafiz of the Holy Quran. The people who completely memorize the Quran are called Hafiz. Hazrat Usman belonged to a noble and powerful family of Quraish known as the Banu Umayyah. His family was well-respected in Makkah even before the advent of Islam.

He was born in 573 A.D. in Makkah and was known by the name Uthman ibn Affan. He was among the few literate people in Makkah at that time, and his trade in cloth made him a wealthy man. Despite being from a leading family of Quraish, Hazrat Usman was humble, kind, and generous. He often helped the poor and needy and earned deep respect among the Makkans.

Hazrat Usman (R.A.) was one of the earliest converts to Islam, accepting the faith after hearing about it from Hazrat Abu Bakar (R.A.). His acceptance of Islam showed his clarity of mind and dedication to truth, even when it meant going against his influential tribe.

He married Hazrat Ruqayyah (R.A.), the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), after her divorce from the son of Abu Lahb. When the persecution of Muslims in Makkah intensified, Hazrat Usman was among the first to migrate to Abyssinia with his wife. The Prophet (PBUH) praised him and said, “Usman is the first man of my Ummah to migrate (for Allah) with his family.”

His strong connection with the Quran, deep piety, and trust of the Prophet made him one of the most prominent companions. During his caliphate, he oversaw the compilation and unification of the Quranic script into a single, official copy known as the Uthmani Mushaf, which is still used today.

Hazrat Usman’s memorization of the Quran and his efforts to preserve it reflect his sincere dedication to Islam and make him one of the most honored figures in Islamic history.
