Name the foster mother(s) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was blessed with several foster mothers during his infancy, each of whom played an important and loving role in his early upbringing. The foster mothers of the Prophet include Hazrat Halima Saadia (RA), Hazrat Saubia (RA), and Hazrat Khola (RA). Their care and affection remain a cherished part of Seerat-un-Nabi and are remembered with deep respect in Islamic history.

Hazrat Saubia (RA) was the first woman who breastfed the Prophet (SAW). She was a freed slave of Abu Lahab, and after the birth of the Prophet, she nursed him out of compassion and affection. Her act of kindness brought her honor in the Muslim community, and she is remembered as the earliest foster mother of the Prophet.

The most widely known foster mother is Hazrat Halima Saadia (RA) from the tribe of Banu Sa’d. She took the infant Prophet into her care according to the Arab tradition of sending children to the desert for better upbringing. From the moment she accepted him, her household witnessed blessings—prosperity increased, her animals became healthier, and her life transformed. Hazrat Halima loved the Prophet (SAW) dearly and cared for him as her own child. Her care during the early years is one of the most beautiful episodes of his life.

Another foster mother mentioned in Islamic sources is Hazrat Khola (RA), who also nursed the Prophet for a short period. Her inclusion reflects the trust and respect the families of Makkah had for the blessed child.
