Before this, Muslims were small in number and often worshipped in secret because of the fear and pressure from the Quraysh. Hazrat Hamza (R.A) was the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and known for his courage. He accepted Islam after Abu Jahl insulted the Prophet. Filled with anger and loyalty, Hazrat Hamza (R.A) declared his faith in Islam without hesitation.
Only a short time later, Hazrat Umar (R.A), a strong and influential figure in Makkah, accepted Islam after secretly reading verses from the Holy Quran—specifically Surah Ta-Ha. The powerful words touched his heart deeply, and he went directly to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to embrace Islam.
After these two strong individuals accepted Islam, the Muslims felt more confident. It was Hazrat Umar (R.A) who openly asked, “Are we not upon the truth?” and led Muslims to pray at the Kaaba for the first time in public.
This bold step changed the atmosphere in Makkah. Islam started to spread more rapidly. Both Umar and Hamza (R.A) became protectors of the Prophet and key leaders of the Muslim community. Their conversions in the 6th year of Prophethood brought a new phase of hope, strength, and resistance for the early Muslims.
