The mother of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was Hazrat Amina bint Wahb (RA), a woman of noble lineage from the respected tribe of Quraysh in Makkah. She is remembered in Islamic history for her piety, virtue, and the significant role she played in nurturing the early life of the Prophet ﷺ. Hazrat Amina married Abdullah ibn Abdul Muttalib, the father of the Prophet ﷺ, and gave birth to Muhammad ﷺ in the year 570 CE, a year later known as the Year of the Elephant.
Hazrat Amina’s life, though short, was marked by devotion and care. She ensured that her son, Muhammad ﷺ, received the best upbringing possible for a child destined to become the last Prophet. After the death of Abdullah (RA) before the birth of his son, Hazrat Amina raised Muhammad ﷺ with dedication, instilling values of honesty, compassion, and morality. She also trusted in Allah’s protection for her child, aware of the divine blessing he carried.
Tragically, Hazrat Amina (RA) passed away when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was only six years old. Despite her early departure, her influence remained a guiding force in his life. Her death left the young Prophet in the care of his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, and later his uncle, Abu Talib, ensuring the continuity of care and moral guidance.
