Owais Qarni (R.A) lived in Yemen and learned about Islam during the time of the Prophet (PBUH). He embraced Islam wholeheartedly and had a deep love for the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), even though he never got the chance to meet him in person.
One of the main reasons Owais Qarni (R.A) never traveled to meet the Prophet (PBUH) was because he had an old and sick mother. He chose to stay and care for her instead of going to Madinah. This act of devotion and respect for his mother was so great that the Prophet (PBUH) praised him among his companions.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said to his companions: “If you meet Owais Qarni, ask him to pray for you.” This shows the high spiritual rank of Owais Qarni (R.A), even without having met the Prophet.
Owais Qarni (R.A) teaches us the importance of sincerity, love for the Prophet, and the virtue of caring for one’s parents. Though he was not a Sahabi in the traditional sense, his life and devotion left a deep mark in Islamic history.
