Hazrat Zakariya (A.S.) was a righteous prophet of Allah who served as the guardian of Maryam (A.S.). He was getting old, and both he and his wife had no children. Despite his old age and his wife’s barrenness, he continued to pray with full faith that Allah could bless them with a child.
In Surah Maryam (19:2–7), Allah narrates Zakariya prayer, in which he said:
"O my Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."
In response to this heartfelt prayer, Allah granted him the good news of a son named Yahya (A.S.), who would be noble, chaste, and a prophet. Allah says in Surah Maryam (19:7):
"O Zakariya, indeed We give you good news of a boy whose name will be Yahya. We have not assigned to any before (this) name."
اے زکریا ہم تمہیں ایک لڑکے کی بشارت دیتے ہیں جس کا نام یحییٰ ہوگا۔ ہم نے اس سے پہلے کسی کو (یہ) نام نہیں دیا ہے۔
