Wealth given in the way of Allah is wasted by whom?

In Islam, wealth given in the way of Allah—whether through charity, donations, or supporting good causes—is considered highly virtuous and rewarding. However, the Quran warns that such wealth can be wasted or rendered ineffective if not handled correctly. The term “Ahsan Jatlan” refers to wealth that is spent extravagantly or in a manner that does not comply with Allah’s guidance, thereby nullifying its blessings.

According to Islamic teachings, the reward of wealth given in charity is maximized when it is spent with sincerity, in moderation, and for legitimate purposes such as helping the poor, building mosques, or supporting education. Misuse, extravagance, or ostentation in spending can lead to the wealth being wasted, meaning that the spiritual reward is lost. This concept is emphasized in verses like Surah Al-Isra (17:26-27) and Surah Al-Baqarah (2:261), which instruct believers to spend wisely and avoid waste.

The Quran distinguishes between different attitudes toward wealth. Patience, gratitude, and kindness enhance the value of wealth and multiply rewards, whereas Ahsan Jatlan—spending recklessly or wastefully—destroys its spiritual benefits. Scholars highlight that wastefulness includes unnecessary luxury, ignoring the needy, or using money for sinful activities, all of which undermine the purpose of wealth in Islam.
