A
DNS (Domain Name System) server is used to
convert domain names into IP addresses. When you type a website name like
google.com into your browser, the DNS server finds the correct IP address so your computer can connect to that website.
This process is called domain name resolution and it helps users access websites using easy-to-remember names instead of numeric IPs.
Other options:
- IP to MAC: Done by ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)
- Next hop: Handled by routers using routing tables
- Encryption: Managed by security protocols like SSL/TLS
