Umm-ul-Momineen Bibi Ume Habiba (رضی اللہ عنہا), one of the noble wives of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, was originally named Ramla bint Abi Sufyan. She came from a prominent Quraysh family in Makkah. Her father was Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, one of the well-known leaders of the Quraysh and initially an opponent of Islam.
Ramla embraced Islam during its early days and faced severe hardships due to her faith. She migrated to Abyssinia (Habsha) with her first husband to escape persecution in Makkah. After her husband's death in exile, she was honored by a proposal from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which she accepted while still in Abyssinia. The marriage was conducted by the Negus (King of Abyssinia), who also gave her a mahr (marriage gift) on behalf of the Prophet ﷺ.
Her title "Umm Habiba" was in reference to her daughter, Habiba. Despite her father being a staunch opponent of Islam at the time, she remained firm in her belief and loyalty to the Prophet ﷺ and Islam. She holds a revered status as one of the Mothers of the Believers (Ummahat-ul-Momineen) and is remembered for her dedication and strength.
