The Current Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan is Justice (Retired) Yar Muhammad, who was appointed as the caretaker Chief Minister on 26 November 2025 after the completion of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly’s five-year term. As a caretaker CM, he is responsible for running routine affairs and ensuring a fair administrative setup until the next elections are held.
Before him, Haji Gulbar Khan served as the Chief Minister from July 2023 to November 2025. He became CM after the disqualification of the previous officeholder and secured the position with the support of coalition members in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. Gulbar Khan had been active in regional politics for many years and led the government through the final phase of the assembly’s tenure.
Prior to him, Khalid Khurshid Khan was the Chief Minister from December 2020 to July 2023. He came into power after the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan elections as a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). His government focused on development, infrastructure, and tourism until he was removed from office following a court decision.
Before the 2020 elected government, Mir Afzal served as the caretaker Chief Minister from June 2020 to November 2020. His role was limited to overseeing the administration during the election period and ensuring a smooth transition to the newly elected assembly.
Before the caretaker setup, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman served as the elected Chief Minister from June 2015 to June 2020. He was a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and completed a full five-year term after winning the 2015 Gilgit-Baltistan elections. His tenure focused on governance reforms, road infrastructure, and regional development projects.
