The Windows key + U shortcut traditionally opens the Utility Manager or Ease of Access settings in Windows. These features provide access to tools that help users interact with the operating system, including accessibility options designed to make computers easier to use.
In older Windows versions, such as Windows XP, pressing Windows key + U opened the Utility Manager, which provided access to accessibility tools. In newer versions, the shortcut opens the Accessibility or Ease of Access settings, depending on the Windows version.
The other options perform different functions. Show System Properties displays information about the computer's hardware and operating system. Show Desktop (toggle) is commonly associated with Windows key + D, which minimizes or restores open windows. Lock Desktop is not the standard function assigned to Windows key + U; Windows key + L is used to lock the computer.
