In the Qur’an, Allah ﷻ tells us the story of Hazrat Adam (A.S) and his wife Hazrat Hawwa (A.S), the first humans created. They were placed in Paradise (Jannah) and were permitted to eat freely from all the trees except one specific tree, which Allah commanded them not to approach. This prohibition was a test of obedience and faith.
Iblees (Satan), who was arrogant and jealous of Adam (A.S) for being honored by Allah, refused to bow before him and was cast out of Allah’s mercy. Out of envy and hatred, Iblees vowed to mislead mankind. When Adam (A.S) and Hawwa (A.S) were living peacefully in Paradise, Iblees came to them in disguise and whispered deceitful words. He swore falsely that eating from the forbidden tree would grant them immortality and make them like angels.
The Qur’an (Surah Al-A‘raf 7:20-22 and Surah Ta-Ha 20:120) describes how Shaitan used his cunning tactics to deceive them. As a result, Adam (A.S) and Hawwa (A.S) tasted the fruit of the forbidden tree. Immediately, they became aware of their nakedness and began covering themselves with leaves of Paradise.
Upon realizing their mistake, both Adam (A.S) and Hawwa (A.S) turned to Allah in repentance, sincerely asking for forgiveness. Allah, being Most Merciful, forgave them but sent them down to earth as part of His divine plan to make Adam (A.S) the first Prophet and the father of mankind.
This incident teaches us several lessons:
Satan is mankind’s open enemy who misleads through whispers and false promises.
Even Prophets can make mistakes, but their greatness lies in sincere repentance.
True salvation lies in obeying Allah and avoiding forbidden acts.
Humans must always be cautious of Satan’s tricks.
Key Facts:
