The commandment for Hajj (pilgrimage) is mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah, the second chapter of the Holy Qur’an. Specifically, verse 196 commands Muslims to complete Hajj and Umrah for the sake of Allah (SWT). Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime for every adult Muslim who is physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey to Makkah.
The relevant verse states:
"And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah..." (Al-Baqarah 2:196)
Hajj is performed during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah and includes several important rituals such as Tawaf (circumambulating the Kaaba), Sa’i (walking between Safa and Marwah), standing at Arafat, Muzdalifah, Mina, and stoning of Jamarat, followed by animal sacrifice (Qurbani).
The commandment in Surah Al-Baqarah emphasizes fulfilling Hajj sincerely for Allah’s pleasure, avoiding disputes, and maintaining purity of intention. While the Surah Al-Hajj (Chapter 22) is named after the pilgrimage and contains many details about it, the initial command to perform Hajj was revealed in Surah Al-Baqarah, making it the first Surah to establish this obligation.
Surah: Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2).
Verse: 2:196 commands Hajj and Umrah for Allah (SWT).
Hajj: One of the five pillars of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime.
Time: Dhul-Hijjah in Makkah.

Surah Al-Hajj (Chapter 22) explains Hajj rituals in detail, but the first command was in Surah Al-Baqarah.
