Before being cursed and becoming known as Iblees (Satan), the devil was known by the name Azazeel. According to authentic Islamic traditions and scholarly interpretations, Azazeel was a highly pious jinn who worshipped Allah (SWT) with great devotion. Due to his extensive worship, he was granted a high status and allowed to live among the ranks of the angels in the heavens, despite not being one himself. However, his arrogance and pride led to his downfall.

When Allah created Hazrat Adam (A.S) and commanded the angels and Azazeel to prostrate before him, Azazeel refused out of arrogance.
