Tawheed (توحيد) is the core belief in Islam meaning “Oneness of Allah”. It refers to the absolute monotheism and the uniqueness of Allah (SWT) as the only true God, without any partners, equals, or associates. This belief is the foundation of the Islamic faith and the first part of the Shahadah (Declaration of Faith): “La ilaha illallah” – There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.
Tawheed emphasizes that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, Owner, and Controller of everything in existence. It rejects polytheism (Shirk) and any form of associating partners with Allah.
Islamic scholars categorize Tawheed into three main aspects:
Tawheed al-Rububiyyah: Belief in Allah’s Lordship – He alone creates, gives life, and controls the universe.
Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah: Belief that Allah alone deserves worship, without directing acts of worship to anyone else.
Tawheed al-Asma wa Sifaat: Belief in Allah’s Names and Attributes as described in Qur’an and Sunnah without alteration or comparison.
Without Tawheed, no act o
