The Holy Qur’an contains 14 Sajdah Tilawat (prostration verses). These are specific verses where, upon recitation or hearing, Muslims are recommended to perform a prostration (Sajdah) as an act of humility and obedience to Allah (SWT). This practice is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah (highly emphasized Sunnah) according to the majority of scholars, showing submission to the command of Allah mentioned in those verses.
The Sajdah Tilawat occurs in 14 different places across various Surahs in the Qur’an. When these verses are recited during Salah or outside prayer, the listener and the reciter both have the option to perform Sajdah immediately or as soon as possible. It is performed facing the Qiblah, saying "Allahu Akbar" before going into prostration and reciting glorifications of Allah.
Some schools of thought consider 15 Sajdahs, counting an additional one in Surah Al-Hajj, but the most widely accepted view is 14 Sajdahs, based on authentic Ahadith and scholarly consensus.
