In which Hijri year was Ghazwa-e-Ohad fought?

  • 3 AH
  • 4 AH
  • 5 AH
  • 6 AH
Correct Answer: A. 3 AH

Detailed Explanation

Ghazwa-e-Ohad, also known as the Battle of Uhud, was fought in the 3rd year after Hijrah (3 AH). It was the second major battle between the Muslims of Madinah and the Quraysh of Makkah, following the victory at the Battle of Badr. Unlike Badr, Ghazwa-e-Ohad ended in a setback for the Muslims due to strategic errors and disobedience during the battle.

The battle took place near Mount Uhud, just outside Madinah. The Quraysh, led by Abu Sufyan, sought revenge for their defeat at Badr and brought a large army to confront the Muslims. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) led around 700 companions against approximately 3,000 Quraysh fighters.

Initially, the Muslims gained the upper hand. However, a group of archers stationed on a hill disobeyed the Prophet’s command and left their posts to collect spoils. This allowed the Quraysh cavalry, led by Khalid bin Waleed (who had not yet embraced Islam), to attack from behind, turning the tide of the battle.

Despite the loss, Ghazwa-e-Ohad taught the Muslim Ummah valuable lessons about discipline, obedience, and resilience. Many companions were martyred, including Hazrat Hamza (R.A.), the beloved uncle of the Prophet. The battle is mentioned in Surah Aal-e-Imran, which highlights its spiritual and moral lessons.
