The Expedition of Al-Raji took place in 4 A.H (625 CE) during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It was a tragic incident in which a group of Muslim companions was sent by the Prophet to teach Islam and recite Qur’an to some tribes in the Najd region. However, they were betrayed and ambushed by treacherous tribes who plotted to kill or sell them to the Quraysh of Makkah.
Several Sahaba (companions), including Khubaib ibn Adi (RA) and Zaid ibn Dathina (RA), were captured and later executed in Makkah. This incident is remembered as an early martyrdom in the path of spreading Islam, highlighting the sacrifices of the Sahaba during the early years of Dawah (inviting to Islam).
The event demonstrates the challenges and dangers faced by the early Muslim community, as they risked their lives to deliver the message of Islam to distant tribes despite hostility and betrayal.
